The message from Riyadh is unmistakable: dialogue is no longer a luxury but a survival strategy. As the 11th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations convened, global leaders confronted a hard truth… the world is more connected than ever yet dangerously fragmented. Polarization, extremism, and hate are accelerating faster than our systems for peace can respond. So let us look at this moment clearly; peace is not failing because it’s unrealistic, it’s failing because it hasn’t been treated as essential infrastructure.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres pushed back against the myth that dialogue is ‘too soft’ for today’s world. Cooperation, diplomacy, and intercultural understanding are not optional. Without them, fear fills the gap and fear builds walls, destroys cities, and erases futures.

Two Paths, One Choice

One future is most certainly defined by division: deepening hatred, weaponized identity, shattered communities, and endless war. The other is built on bridges, between cultures, religions, generations, and technologies, and it is only this path that leads to sustainable peace. Because we won’t stop until we have no more destroyed cities, no more starved communities, and no more scapegoated people.

Peace demands equal voices and shared responsibility. As UNAOC leaders stressed, no single culture or faith can shape the future alone. Diversity is not a threat, it is our greatest strength.

Innovation Serving Humanity

The Forum also confronted another growing danger: AI-driven misinformation, deep fakes, and algorithm-amplified hate. Innovation without ethics destabilizes societies. Peace innovation means human-centered technology, better safeguards, and empowering young people to lead solutions without inheriting chaos.

The Moment Is Now
